 FAQ

1)  Is e-mail a good way to get a hold of you?

No, not really.  We check e-mail "when we can" and that is not every day.  A phone call works best if you require a timely response.

2)  When does HB89 go into effect?

July 1st.

3)  What is HB89?

HR89 states that if you have a CCW (Georgia Firearms License) you will be able to carry a concealed firearm into a restaurant that gets at least 50% of its revenue from food sales.  It also says a lot of other stuff.  Read it for yourself here:  http://www.legis.state.ga.us/legis/2007_08/fulltext/hb89.htm

4)  Does my gun have to be concealed when I carry?  Can't I legally carry the gun on me in plain view?

Technically yes, BUT:

1) The first person who sees it and freaks out will call the police, and you will have a conversation with the authorities.  It may go well, it may not go well, it depends on who answers the call and how they feel about what you are doing.  But it will get no better than "a long conversation with the police".  It can get considerably worse.  You will win in the end, but the hassle involved could be excessive and expensive.

2) If the restaurant / establishment owner decides to throw you out, he can do so legally.  It may also make an enemy out of a business owner who was previously uninvolved in gun control. People hate to have their faces rubbed in things they are unfamiliar with, or that frighten them (no matter how irrational that fear may be).  There are better ways to win hearts and minds than frightening someone's patrons, no matter how valid your stance may be.

3) It is tactically foolish, bordering on suicide.  Never let the bad guy know anything more about you than you have to.  Surprise is one of the greatest advantages, don't give it up when you are fighting for your life.

The first predator that decides to walk up behind you and just yank that gun out of your holster will probably have no problem doing so.  Or he may just punch your lights out and take it off your unconscious body.  A sucker-punch from an ex-con whose been lifting weights and punching the heavy bag in prison for the last 8 years packs a hell of a wallop.  There are even "schools" in some prisons where inmates teach and practice disarming police.  If you do not see it coming, there is little you can do to stop it.

Depending on who you are reading, between 40% and 75% of all cops shot, are shot with their own gun.  These are professionals, trained in weapon retention, carrying in at least level 3 retention holsters, and they are still disarmed with frightening regularity.  What level of retention is your holster?  How many hours of Officer Survival training do you have?

You may feel the political statement outweighs the potential for legal entanglements, backfiring on you, or getting you killed.  We will not tell you not to do it.  We only offer these arguments for your consideration.  And another opinion:

Should you be able to carry open?  YES, it is legally your right.

Should other people be cool about your sidearm?  YES, that would be nice.

If EVERYONE carried open, might things be different?  YES, that would be nice, too.

Are there some very serious considerations regarding open carry?  YES.

Please choose wisely, and after much consideration of both sides of the issue.

5)  Do you have a shooting range?

"Nick's Guns and RANGE".  Duh.

5a)  How late is the range open?

The range closes when the store closes.

6)  Can you tell me over the phone how much you'll pay me for my gun ?

No.  We MUST SEE THE GUN in all cases before giving an estimated purchase price.  We CAN NOT give estimates over the phone, there are just far too many variables in terms of quality, condition, accessories, finishes, etc.  Sorry!

7)  Where can I get my CCW license / GA Firearms License / Carry Permit?

At your local probate court.  You can find all the information you need on the following sights.

Cobb County:   http://www.cobbcountyga.gov/judicial/firearms_license.htm

-OR-

Find your local Probate Court:   http://www.gaprobate.org/find_court.asp

8)  This gun I bought doesn't work right, can I get my money back?

Nick's Guns and Range will warranty any used gun we sell for 1 year.  Repairs or problems with brand new guns are covered by the factory warranty.  We can advise you on how to get your warranty information to the factory, and give you contact numbers.  But we are not a Factory Authorized Warranty Repair Center nor a Factory Authorized Warranty Return Center for any firearms manufacturer.

9)  Is this Ed's Gun and Tackle?

NO!  Nick's Guns and Range is owned by General Guns, LLC.  It was purchased from Ed's Gun and Tackle Inc., but some phone book ads and web reference remain.  It is NOT the same ownership or company.  It is, however, at the same physical location.

9a)  What about my Ed's range credit slip from 1973?

Sorry, no Ed's Gun and Tackle Range credit will be honored unless it is dated later than September of '05.

10)  Will I be asked to leave if I am wearing an Adolph Hitler / Che Guevara / Idi Amin Dada / Pol Pot /  Nazi / Communist / child-molester etc. tee-shirt?

Yes.

10a)  What about if I'm wearing sandals?

Maybe.  If you're female, no.  If you are male and have big hairy man-feet, probably.

12)  Why is there no question 11?

It's one of life's great mysteries.

13)  Can I shoot a shotgun on your range?

 No.

  13a)  Why not?

It damages the carrier and conveyor wires for the target holder.

14) Do you sell guns?

Yes.

15) Do you have a shooting range there?

Yes.  See question 5.

15a)  Do you have rifle lanes?

Yes.

15b)  What is the biggest rifle I can shoot on your range?

.300 Win Magnum.  (That means .223 and 7.62x39 are OK.)

16) Can I buy Thompson/Center guns from you?

Yes, if you have a manufactures model/SKU number, we will be more than happy to order anything you like from Thompson/Center.

17)  Do you have a gunsmith?

Yes.

18) Did Dave really steal cats?

Yes, he suffers from kleptopantherism, a rare disorder associated with 60 month financing programs.

19) My wife won’t let me buy a gun, what should I do?

(Rich's response has been removed by the Editor for reasons of decorum. - Editor)

20)  What happened to the guy with the white beard?

Jim is no longer employed here.  I think he sells used cars now, or maybe real estate.

21)  Do get a free box of ammo with my gun?

No.

   21a)  Don't I get anything for buying a gun?

Yes, you get $25.00 worth of free range time.

22I have a felony / out of state drivers license / domestic violence conviction / no form of ID, can I buy a gun?

No, I would love to do business with you, but not at the cost of both of us going to Federal prison.

22a)  Then can my girlfriend / wife / brother / friend buy the gun?

No, that is called a "straw purchase" and brings us right back to the Federal prison problem I mentioned previously.

23)  Where can I do some real 'self defense' style shooting, you know, at like moving targets and short range and stuff like that?

Greater Atlanta Defensive Pistol Association.  Great bunch of people, and a heck of a lot of fun.
